Five individuals were formally accused in federal court on Wednesday in
relation to a chaotic gun battle that resulted in the deaths of two
individuals at a warehouse in Mount Vernon on Tuesday, yet law
enforcement is still in pursuit of additional suspects. The illegal sale of a significant quantity of marijuana and nicotine
products to two individuals occurred at 137 South Fifth Ave. on Monday
at approximately 10 p.m. It took the warehouse workers approximately two
hours to prepare for this illicit transaction, as reported by the
authorities. At approximately midnight, a pair of warehouse employees provided
assistance to the customers by aiding them in transporting the boxes of
merchandise to their vehicle. It was during this time that a group of 10
to 15 individuals suddenly emerged from a van and made an audacious
attempt to steal the merchandise by brandishing firearms. Upon arrival at the scene at approximately 12:15 a.m., the Mount Vernon
Police discovered the aftermath of a fierce exchange of gunfire between
the workers and the robbers, resulting in the unfortunate loss of two
lives.
Authorities have reported that Victor Jiminez, who was one of the
perpetrators involved in the armed robbery, succumbed to a fatal gunshot
wound to the head at the location of the incident. In contrast, the
other victim, an employee working at the warehouse, was discovered
beneath a shelving unit with gunshot injuries to his torso and chest.
Regrettably, he was declared deceased upon arrival at a nearby medical
facility. The AR-15 firearm, along with four AR spent shell casings and three
spent 9mm shell casings, was found by the Mount Vernon police. A
warehouse employee stated that the AR-15 belonged to the warehouse and
was kept behind the register for security reasons.
The authorities successfully apprehended five individuals, namely Ilario
Contreras, Jerpi Diaz-Feliz, Jhoan Diaz-Feliz, Victor Jimenez, and
Joseph Perez. They were brought before the federal court in White Plains
where they faced charges of murder, robbery, conspiracy to distribute
narcotics, and possession of firearms. The FBI was informed by a source that the individuals were planning to
steal "8 million dollars and 6 kilograms of cocaine" from the warehouse. The collaboration between the NYPD and FBI is ongoing as they continue
their joint efforts to apprehend the outstanding individuals involved.
Currently, there are at least five suspects who have yet to be
apprehended. In order to aid their investigation, law enforcement has
made public a photograph of an individual believed to be the
perpetrator, potentially identified as "Marcos."
