Authorities have made public the photograph of the individual suspected of stabbing an MTA bus driver while he was performing his duties in Brooklyn. The event took place at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Saturday on a B99 bus in the vicinity of Pitkin Avenue and Alabama Avenue. The New York Police Department reports that the individual engaged in a verbal altercation with the 60-year-old bus driver prior to stabbing him in the neck with an unidentified sharp instrument. Authorities indicate that the suspect was able to leave the bus and escape traveling west on Pitkin Avenue. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has confirmed that no passengers sustained injuries during the incident.

"The attack against a bus operator doing his job was outrageous and unacceptable. We are confident the NYPD will find the person responsible to face justice," a MTA spokesperson said. 

The victim was taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center by first responders, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

A random knife attack in the East Village left a 30-year-old man injured and nearby workers and residents shaken on a Thursday evening.

According to police, the victim was standing in the area of Astor Place when he was suddenly attacked from behind and slashed in the neck with a sharp object. The assault occurred in a busy pedestrian plaza where people regularly stop for coffee, check their phones, or simply pass through.

Employees at a nearby coffee kiosk witnessed the aftermath. Orlando Robles, who was working at the time, described seeing blood on the sidewalk in front of him. “It makes me feel so nervous because I’ve never seen something like that before. It was the first time I’ve ever seen that in my life. Especially here at a peaceful area,” he said.

Other people who frequent the plaza expressed similar unease. One woman, Dumas, had left the area only minutes before the attack and returned to find the plaza cordoned off and blood on the ground. She recalled an earlier mugging she experienced years ago in the city, noting that the level of weapon violence feels different now.

“Unfortunately, nothing is safe anymore in New York,” said another local, David Itah.

Random slashings in public spaces tend to generate particular anxiety because they lack an obvious personal motive and can happen to anyone present at the wrong moment.
